In the work ‘Kracht-stroom’ Marianne presents a construction of frames made of selected building materials. These are human-devised systems used (literally) for construction. In this installation the white windowframes serve as frameworks by which the world is organized, and through which a sense of control seems to exists.
A form of bright colors and strechy textile materials winds through these frameworks. On this location, next to the river Reest, a link with water is made quickly. Humans are to a certain extent, capable of directing the flow to their will. But too much control, and nature retaliates mercilessly.
The installation reveals two sides. It shows the destructive power of water (and the expressive power of humanity!), but also celebrates its potential. The sculpture ends in a free-form climax, the stream seems to spin out of control and it is celebrated. Flooded lands are but too familiar to us. While devastating, it also gives the landscape a new (and tranquil) look. After the water recedes, the land reveals itself as reborn.
