Future sTREEts

2023

metal, paving stones, local plants

200  x 200 x 350 cm

In ‘Future sTREEts’ green triumphs over grey, plants over pavement. Haarlem’s street plan formed the basis for the metal tree that towers above the paving stones. Stones collected during so called ‘Tile-flipping-days’ are recylced and stacked into planters. In close collaboration with Anniek Herder of Zorg in de Tuin (Care in the Garden), native greenery is planted here, which will gradually take over the sculpture. Over the seasons, it’s landscape will overgrow, then appear more bare again, in the hope that nature will return stronger each year. The work hopes to be an inspiration and encouragment to greenour urban environment, increasing biodiversity, and restoring balance with nature.

Future sTREEts was commissioned by Groen Kapitaal, province of North-Holland.
