‘Balancing on Trembling ground’ is an installation featering a cargo bike, that carries a city scape. The architectural shapes are composed of various everyday objects that are sold in mom-and-pop shops in the streets of Xiamen, cast in porcelain.
By showing the total process of ceramic casting; the mold, the rough casts, the cleaned casts, the boxes in which the porcelain would be transported, all kept together by a bamboo scaffolding, the work focuses on the buildingproces, the ongoing construction around us. This sculpture poetically suggests the struggle of the individual with the anonymized world of skyscrapers and simultaneously questions the displacement of traditional values by economic interests.
This work is created during a residency at Chinese European Art Center, Xiamen
